Paul first left home to train at the National Table Tennis Academy (then based in Holme Pierrpont, Nottingham) at the tender age of 11 years old. He has lived away in one guise or another ever since - training, competing and clocking up thousands of air miles! He still loves to get together with old friends and team mates when he is at home, and spend time with his girlfriend Joanna Parker who is also an England Senior Team Player.
